Vice Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jim Kilby visited the ����ֱ�� Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, Maryland, on July 24 along with members of his staff.

Kilby met with technical experts and visited several of the Laboratory’s state-of-the-art research facilities. He and his team received technical briefings focused on innovations APL develops for sponsors like the U.S. Navy across a number of critical national security capabilities, including integrated air and missile defense, sea control and long-range fires.

“Through our partnership, we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in defense technology,” Kilby said. “This collaboration not only strengthens our national security but also reaffirms our dedication to advancing the frontiers of science and engineering.”

“We provided Adm. Kilby with a deeper view of the wide-ranging work across APL that is advancing the nation’s capabilities to maintain superiority in complex warfighting domains,” APL’s Theater Defense Mission Area Executive Vishal Giare said. “It was a great opportunity to hear directly from Adm. Kilby about the Navy’s critical challenges and priorities, while sharing our perspectives on innovative concepts and solutions.”

Kilby ended his visit with a presentation about current naval operations, a question-and-answer session with staff members, and a word of gratitude for APL.

“I’ve worked with APL for more than 17 years and have no doubt the work you do is important. I saw that firsthand today,” Kilby said. “Our Navy wants to work together with our partners who are working to solve our most difficult problems to ensure we can fight and win when that call comes. You are helping us do just that. Thank you for all you do for our Navy and nation.”
