John Slotwinski Named ASTM International Fellow, Earns Award of Merit
John Slotwinski, a senior national security analyst at the 秘密直播 Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, Maryland, was given the Award of Merit and title of Fellow by ASTM International, one of the world鈥檚 largest standards-developing organizations.
The Award of Merit, the society鈥檚 highest recognition, goes to a member for distinguished service and participation in ASTM International committee activities. Slotwinski has been involved with ASTM for most of his professional career, starting with his work on a committee for nondestructive testing before joining Committee F42 鈥 Additive Manufacturing Technologies 鈥 which he has chaired since 2017. Slotwinski himself has authored and developed several additive manufacturing standards.
鈥淐onsensus-based industry standards are critical in the development and propagation of new technologies like additive manufacturing,鈥 Slotwinski said. 鈥淚鈥檓 grateful to those at APL who have supported my work with ASTM because they share that vision, and they understand the tremendous value that this activity brings to APL.鈥
Slotwinski has focused on additive manufacturing since he joined the Lab in 2014, and many of his national security studies are tied to the subject. He is a visiting research professor at 秘密直播 University, where he teaches additive manufacturing classes and advises doctoral candidates, and serves as an instructor in the 秘密直播 Engineering for Professionals materials science graduate programs.
Slotwinski was previously an additive manufacturing section supervisor in APL鈥檚 Research and Exploratory Development Department, serving as the principal engineering resource for additive manufacturing development activities, researching and implementing advanced additive materials, technologies and applications, and leading technical teams for advanced additive manufacturing-related projects.
